Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about antenatal care and delivery

We recommend scheduling your first prenatal visit as soon as you confirm your pregnancy or suspect you are pregnant. Ideally, this should be within the first 8 weeks of pregnancy. Early prenatal care is important for establishing your due date, assessing your health status, and identifying any potential risk factors that may require special attention during your pregnancy.

In a typical low-risk pregnancy, you will have at least two ultrasound scans: a dating scan in the first trimester (around 8-12 weeks) and an anomaly scan in the second trimester (around 18-22 weeks). Additional scans may be recommended based on your individual circumstances, such as if you have a high-risk pregnancy, if there are concerns about fetal growth, or to check the position of the baby later in pregnancy.

Standard prenatal tests include blood tests to check your blood type, hemoglobin levels, immunity to certain infections, and to screen for conditions like gestational diabetes. You'll also have urine tests to check for urinary tract infections and conditions like preeclampsia. Additional tests may include genetic screening tests, which are optional but can provide information about the risk of certain chromosomal conditions. Your healthcare provider will discuss which tests are recommended for you based on your age, health history, and other factors.

We offer various pain management options during labor, including non-pharmacological methods (breathing techniques, position changes, massage, water therapy) and pharmacological methods (epidural anesthesia, nitrous oxide, opioid medications). Our team will discuss these options with you during your prenatal visits and help you create a birth plan that aligns with your preferences. We support your choices while ensuring the safety of both you and your baby.

Our postnatal support includes regular check-ups for both mother and baby, breastfeeding support from lactation consultants, guidance on newborn care, emotional support, and screening for postpartum depression. We also provide resources for new parents, including parenting classes and support groups. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition to parenthood and address any concerns or challenges you may face after delivery.
